LINDSEY'S CLASSES AT UC EXTENSION: FALL 2008
Lindsey will be teaching Writing Skills Workshop again, a popular class for those looking to sharpen their writing skills, learn tools for concise and correct style, develop a personal voice, gain some confidence, and have fun.  If you spend hours procrastinating, crossing out every other word it took you hours to come up with, or wondering about just how to use a semicolon, this is the class for you.    Also this fall, UC Extension is starting a new certificate program in writing.  As part of the new program, Lindsey will be teaching a new class on the craft of writing, conveniently called The Craft of Writing.  Designed for the creative writing student, this class explores the basics of craft:  point of view, characterization, imagery, etc.  Students learn -- and experiment with -- the techniques necessary for making fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

ESSAY CHOSEN FOR UPCOMING ANTHOLOGY
Lindsey's essay "The Water Will Hold You," originally published in Image magazine and included in Best American Spiritual Writing 2004, has been selected for the soon-to-be-published Religion in the 21st Century by Jonathan S. Cullick.  The essay became the kernel (and, in different form, chapter 5) of The Water Will Hold You: A Skeptic Learns to Pray.
ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Image Journal, the website for the wonderful magazine Image: Art Faith Mystery, featured Lindsey as its Artist for of the Month for June 2008.
TRUTH IS STRANGER
"The Art of Fiction" appears in spring/fall 2007 issue of Bellingham Review. Lindsey wrote this story while on residency at Ragdale in January 2005. She read from it at this year's Litquake festival, where it drew cheers, laughter, and a few shocked expressions from one young boy (Can she say that?!?). Watch for yourself.
STORY WINS AWARD
"Which Leaves Me" has been awarded 2nd place in Glimmer Train's Very Short Fiction Award.   Lindsey wrote the story in October 2005 at VCCA, a residency for artists and writers in the foothills of the Blue Ridge.   It will be published in an upcoming issue of Glimmer Train.

LITQUAKE AFTERSHOCKS
San Francisco's literary festival Litquake (in October 2007) featured lots of great readings and SRO closing night festivities up & down Valencia Street.  Some memorable moments: readings by Grotto writers Meghan Ward, Rachel Howard, Elizabeth Bernstein, Julia Scheeres. Lindsey shared the stage at the SFPL with Jacqueline Berger, Jeff Bell, Josh Kornbluth, and fellow Midlist author Toni Mirosevich. Locals got a chance to meet women writers and have books signed at The Booksmith booth on Sunday 9/23. Lindsey shared the booth with writer Cara Black (author of the Aimee Leduc mystery series set in Paris). Also there earlier in the day: Laura Fraser (An Italian Affair) and Kiara Brinkman (Up High in the Trees), among others. Coincidentally, Lindsey and Kiara also read together at St Stephen's Episcopal Church in Belvedere that evening.
